COMMEMORATIVE BADGE FOR THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF
‘THE MEMORABLE ORDER OF THE TIN HATS’
As a tangible memento of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary, in May 2007, of the founding of The Order, an appropriate badge has been designed and will be made available to all MOTH’s from 1st May 2007.
The design and symbolism of the badge.
Centre, a ‘Tin Hat’ supporting a lit and rayed candle over the letters ‘MOTH’. All imposed on a back ground of the MOTH colours in three equal vertical panels. Dark blue, pillar box red and light blue, the Three Service and Merchant Marine colours.
This encompassed in a wreath of Laurel and Oak. Dexter, (right) Laurel, symbolising the accomplishment and triumph of the Order. Sinister, (left) Oak, characterising strength and resilience. This wreath is closed at the apex, in ‘Memory’ of all MOTH’s who paid the ‘Supreme Sacrifice’, passed from the sight of man to ‘Higher Service’ over the passed 80 years.
The whole, resting on an ornamental scroll, charged with the years 1927 and 2007, separated with the number 80.
This badge, truly, representative of the ‘Three Ideals’ of the Order, will be manufactured in Antique Bronze and embellished in the appropriate colours, as described above. The badge will have a maximum width of 25mm. An additional badge will be embroidered in cloth, with an estimated width of 65mm for attachment to shirts, caps and wind breakers.
