Lone Tree Shellhole [Barberton] swore in their new Shellhole Executive during their August meeting last Sunday. Old Bill Cliff Eksteen, Wee Bill Glenn du Preez, Pay Bill John Leigh, Scribe Graham Collins and Sgt Major Mike Menge will rule that particular roost for the next year.

Lone Tree’s Moths have been keeping themselves out of trouble by occupying themselves with many projects lately. Their Shellhole interior has been repainted and the wooden dance floor is going to be getting a sanding and varnishing next. The plans to move those cannons to the Shellhole are progressing well and largely without hitches or glitches.

Good news is that they inducted two new members at their July meeting. Watch this space for further details.

Staying with Lone Tree, don’t forget that they’ll be hosting the next District Dugout meeting, which is on Sunday the 24th of August. There also will be an outing for the Ladies attending the meeting. They will be taken to an indigenous garden centre where they will be served tea whilst waiting for the MOTH meeting to end.

Then on Saturday 30 August the Wits Rifles Association will be performing the rededication of their unit’s badge in the Garden of Remembrance, starting at 16H30. Moths from throughout the dugout are invited to attend. The post-parade "debriefing drinks" will be at the Shellhole.

Lone Tree Shellhole report that they inducted Dries Joubert and Dennis Pitcher into the Order at their July meeting. Welcome into the fold, chaps! As with anything in life, you will find that in our Order the more you put in, the more you get out.

The late Tom Scott, who had been an associate member of Lone Tree Club for over 30 years was buried on Friday 8th. He will be remembered fondly.

A full bakkie load of clothing was delivered to needy families on Saturday the 9th, all donated by Barberton Moths and their friends.  The Barbertonians challenge the rest of the Dugout’s Moths to do better. Remember you can make arrangements directly with Lone Tree’s Old Bill Cliff Eksteen on 072 970 7588 if you have any clothing or household kit to contribute.

The Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Helen Zille, invites us Moths to the COMMEMORATION SERVICE FOR THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF SQUARE HILL on Saturday 20 September 2008 at 11:00. Venue: Darling Street in front of the old City Hall. The service will be followed by a reception in the Castle of Good Hope in Buitenkant Street, Cape Town. Dress: MOTH uniform with "fruit salad". Mpumalanga Shellhole had their August meeting on Thursday. The new ExCom there looks pretty much the same as before [not pretty at all!] but for Moth Jon Tombs who takes over from John Gerrard as Adj. Johan Strydom takes over from Patrick Ellis as the Sgt Major.
