Coalfields District MECSA UNIT, Sound Memory Cottages, arranged a surprise farewell function to bid Sound Memory Cottages Manager, Vicky Mentz, farewell on her retirement.

The function was in good taste and members of the Committee under the guidance of Moth Neville Lynn can rightfully feel proud of the arrangements.

During the official proceedings, Crater Shellhole also did a short presentation in honor of Vicky. One could sense the pride and appreciation when Vicky received the MOTH Certificate of Comradeship from the Crater representative. The following citation was made: "Me. Vicky Mentz has since her appointment as Manager at Sound memory Cottages in 1976 until present ,(34 years) through all those many years, done the Order proud in that she has cared for members of this Order, their spouses, Non-Moth residents and their families in a conscientious manner. She carried out her duties meticulously and thoroughly. The management of Sound Memory Cottages as well as the quality of care was praiseworthy!

It is without hesitation that we suggest that she be awarded with the Certificate of comradeship for Non-Moths on Shellhole Level."

He became a legend as both Transport supervisor and Recreation Club Manager, a position he passed on to his son OTTO when Snowy retired in1985.Snowy is also a mean bowler and represented various Bowls Clubs and Shellholes in league games and tournaments, being a staunch supporter of the MOTH’s Annual Bowls Tournament. In the photo above "Snowy" proudly sports his MOTH installation Certificate dated 1952!! He joined the Order on the 6th January 1952 becoming a member of African Star Shellhole, moving to various Shellholes as some become redundant or due to relocating. He served a few times as OLD BILL (Gondar Shellhole). In 1968 he and his wife Joey, accompanied a selected group of 45 MOTH couples on a boat trip to the U.K. The highlight of the excursion being having "morning tea" with Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.
