Remembrance
Day Parade: Sandy Shellhole once again hosted the annual
Remembrance Day Parade in Sasolburg on Sunday 9 November 2008. A total of
12 wreaths were laid by organisations and companies from within the
Sasolburg area. Pictured below is the Cenotaph situated in the CBD of
Sasolburg with the wreaths in the forground. The Cenotaph is in the form of
a water fountain, with a sphere cut into several pieces, symbolising a
world split by war. The Cenotaph was originally donated by Natref (National
Petroleum Refiners) in 1985 and dedicated “To the Community of Sasolburg –
to those who gave their lives”. Sculptured by Danie De Jager, the
inscription reads:
A world
A perfect sphere
The life of a man
Broken – destroyed
