Launch

LAUNCH of the MOTH MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION on 6th SEPTEMBER 2008 at BLAAUWBERG CUCA SHELLHOLE.

The day coincided with a Regional race meeting at Killarney race-track, the home of Blaauwberg Cuca Shellhole.  We were blessed with sunny, clear
skies (for a change!) and an excellent turn-out.  As a result, the tea garden was extremely well supported – this is a thirsty Shellhole!

Hamburgers were sold during the day while two lambs were spit-braaied in preparation for the evening’s festivities.  Swindle tickets were distributed during the early evening, and prizes included a grand prize of a sponsored Lazer helmet. (Thanks to Chris Towers of RST).

At Seven o’clock the Provincial Old Bill, Brian Porter, presented short messages of congratulations and goodwill from far and wide, and then had the pleasant task of presenting the first eleven MMA members with their “Colours”.  This concluded, prizes were awarded and the festivities got under way.

The food was good, the music and entertainment was very good, but most of all, the comaradarie was fantastic.

To Blaauwberg Cuca Shellhole and my fellow Moth and their families, a very big and hearty “Thank You” for your ideas, help, initiative and support.  To Moths from other Shellholes, thank you all for unselfishly pitching in and helping to make the day a success.  Thanks to photgraphers, Killarney Race Track and the W.P.M.C.

The whole day and evening was a resounding success due to everyone who lived by the Ideals on the DAY:-  True Comradeship and Mutual Help.  2 out 3 aint bad!

PS

After the launch, two MMA lads (Butch and Fred) left to take part in the Hippo Rally in Richards Bay .  The planned their trip to try to visit some Shellholes along the way, and they were extremely well received by all.  It certainly looks as though the MMA can prove to be a major boost for the Order in terms of Recruitment – and visits by MMA members to Rallies across the country are sure to fly the Moth flag with great effect.

Robertson House visit

The History

A news report about the presence of the S.A. Defence Force in Angola during 1975, left Solm Yach, one of the initial founders of the Fund for Security Services Disabled and a prominent city business man, very perturbed. He realised that there would be casualties and permanent injuries amongst S.A. soldiers.

Upon his return to South Africa, after a boat trip he visited the late Brig. L.H. Robertson, armed with a 16mm movie on a facility for the many war injured in Israel. Brig. Robertson was then Officer Commanding Western Province Command. This movie on Beit Halochem (House of the Soldier) moved everyone profoundly. It was then that the late Bettie Robertson, blind wife of the late Brig. Robertson, decided that a similar centre would have to be established in South Africa.

Senior military officers of the South African Defence Force also realised the urgent need for a facility where the injured could receive physiotherapeutic, social and psychological support.

The first fundraising project was held in June 1976 and the Fund for Security Services Disabled was established in October 1979. Robertson House for disabled security force members was opened on 7 June 1990 in Milnerton.

In 1999 the Board of Trustees decided to change the name of the Fund for Security Services Disabled to The Robertson House Fund.

Robertson House is a warm and welcome multi-racial home for persons over the age of 18 years with permanent spinal cord injuries and not only for persons who were permanently injured while serving in the SA Defence Force.

Robertson House is a registered Non-Profit Organisation
