Again this year, MOTH Shellhole bowlers lined up to fill the 7 rinks at Witbank Golf Bowls Club in the name of charity. They came from Johannesburg, Pretoria Ermelo and Middelburg to support the Moths of Crater Shellhole in their annual charity Bowls Tournament. Bowlers representing Dickey Fritz, Tim Lukin, Ouma, Crater, Gondar, Vacant Chair, Monte Sole and Coalfields all checked in with their eyes on the coveted Coalfields Trophy.

The Crater Bowls Day was revived in 2010 by Moth Brian Engelbrecht and has since become a tradition offering high standards, delightful bowling, lots of fun and high quality prizes.

The Executive of Crater Shellhole noted their sincere appreciation to the following Witbank Golf Bowls Club members who, year after year, provide outstanding facilities and unselfish service for the tournament. In the Thankyou presentation the following were hailed for their hospitality and unselfish assistance to make this a quality day: Hannatjie Smith for hospitality and general services, Glenda Allison for catering and management, Mike Abott and Willie Allison for refreshments behind the bar, Eben Barnado as games starter, Mike Collins for narrating the bingo session, Monica Gilbert for extorting donations from the bowlers and Linah Makola, Mercy Sebande and Johannes Matsi for the “behind the scene” necessities.

The sponsors namely Saveways Superspar, Nevin Matthews, Buys Scheepers, Len Bowler, Brian Stopper, Brian Engelbrecht and Chris Sonnekus were also hailed for their welcome contributions.

A handsome profit was recorded; the proceeds of which will be handed over to the Witbank Sound Memory Cottages to be applied to the running of this “haven’.

The sought-after MOTH Bowls Trophy was won by the MOTH Coalfields District Team.

At the end of a day which was loaded with fun, laughter and good music, each bowler departed with a promise to return next year.
