Sad news indeed – Moth Colin Sinclair a long standing member of Hard Tack Shellhole Umkomaas – answered the Sunset Call yesterday [Sunday the 19th October]
Colin joined the SAAF in November 1940 and obtained his wings in January 1942.
He was sent to SAAF No 1 Fighter Squadron in Egypt and after flying Hurricanes for a while, was detached to RAF No 92 “East India” squadron to gain experience on Spitfires.
In 1944 Colin became a Flight Commander of SAAF No 11 Squadron in Italy.
Colin was awarded numerous medals and in November 1947 he was presented the DFC [Distinguished Flying Cross] Medal by His Excellency the Governor General of SA.
After the war, Colin studied at Wits University and had a long and successful career as a dentist.Rest In Peace Colin – you will be sorely missed.
