How did our Shellhole get its name?
The Shellhole was founded in 2005 in Saldanha on the west coast. It was inaugurated on 29th May 2005 by the Cape Midlands Executive. Founder members and the first executive Old Bill Ken Meyer, DOB Koos De Goede, Adjutant Dave Rankin and Paybill Andre Venter were dully sworn in. Because we are located on the west coast of South Africa which was basically discovered and settled by Portuguese sailors / navigators, we combined the two into Weskus (Afrikaans for “west coast”) and Quartel which is Portuguese for barracks or soldiers living quarters….hence Weskus Quartel.
